How to Replace an audi q3 key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located at the top of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins and they perform different functions however the best method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or injectors are audi key fob not working firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and Audi tt Key programming RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of fuel injectors, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these sensors go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner that could cause engine shut down.

Some of the signs of a failing G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or a misfire when in gear. If you have any of these issues it is likely that your sensor is going bad and requires audi replacement key cost uk. The good thing is that they are very cheap and easy to find particularly in the case of an Bosch model, like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part is an option.

suzuki-logo.jpgA failing engine speed sensor could be the cause of a slew of problems in your car. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi a5 Key fob because it relays information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine is turning. If this sensor fails, it will disrupt the performance of the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost and then sends it on to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This is a common feature across the audi keys replacement 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find some good ones in wrecking yards.
