How to Replace an audi a3 spare key Q7 replacement audi a4 key Key (Easybookmark.Win) G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated near the edges of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It's a bit tricky to test as there are several connector pins, and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I get zero Ohm. I'm assuming the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I don't know what to do. I think I've eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or at a parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues it is most likely that your sensor is deteriorating and should be replaced. The good news is that they are quite affordable and easily accessible, especially in the case of a Bosch model, like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part is an option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous issues in your car. It's a vital component of the audi car key replacement's transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is turning. If this sensor fails, it could disrupt the performance of the transmission, as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then processes this signal to control fuel, timig, and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This is the same across the Audi 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 Du You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.Mitsubishi-Motors-New.png
