The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Robot vacuums remove pet hair, lint, and dust from the floor vacuum robot before they settle. They also can avoid obstacles like furniture that is unstable and stairs.

Most robotic vacuums require regular maintenance. This includes emptying the bin (and robot vacuum cleaner occasionally, rinsing it) and wiping the cameras and sensors. Additionally, they must be connected to a power source. Many come with smartphone applications for scheduling, adjusting setting and more.

The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent of a series of top-of-the-line robot vacuums, is a staple for every modern home. This model comes with a HEPA-filter that will aid those suffering from allergies. On top of that it also has a powerful battery which can clean for up to two hours and it will return to its dock when its bin is full.

It also has an option called smart mapping which uses multiple sensors to help it identify the areas of your home that require attention and then create a clean path around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does a good job of moving around toys that have been abandoned on the floor, or furniture legs that stick out of the ground. It also has a camera that can snap the Roomba back to its original position when it starts to drift from its intended location.

iRobot has also included the option of rolling rollers under the Roomba that don't have bristles, and therefore are more likely to avoid tangles than previous models. They are also taller and can be tucked under beds or couches that are low. They're specifically designed to make this model more movable on various flooring types.

The Roomba 980 differs from other models with a high-end price tag by its brand new dirt detection feature, which uses a camera in order to detect embedded dirt. This is a great improvement over the previous version, which relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage method to bounce around the room and clean it at minimum three times from various angles.

In our tests of its performance, the Roomba 980 did well on carpets and hard flooring. Its score on the low pile carpet was impressive, and it got a very excellent score on mid pile too. It did a good job picking up pet hair but had a difficult time with the thick and long pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the top performing robots on our list despite the slight limitations. It's also less expensive than other top-of the-line models. It's still packed with a variety of features that we'd expect to find in a flagship model, but it doesn't have all the fancy app-enabled functions or smart home integration you'll find in other top contenders.

The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and get up and running immediately. After taking the yellow bin insert and battery pull tab from its undercarriage you simply plug it into the wall socket or one of its Home Base docking stations, click the "Clean button" and let it do its work. It will return to the dock when it runs out of battery or is full of trash. There are also indicator lights on top that show when its bin is empty, when it is in need of recharging or if it loses Wi-Fi.
