Replacement Upvc Window Handles

Most replacement upvc windows handles come with everything you require. However, if your old handle was secured by screws or pins, they will need to removed. Then, you need to remove the snap-in cover on the handle's base.

You'll need to determine what kind of window lock and handle you're replacing. This is crucial!

Espag

Espag handles are a multipoint lock system that can be installed on casement windows like uPVC and wooden double glazing. The handle has a 7mm square shaft that is fitted into an internal gearbox that is mounted on the uPVC window. When the handle is turned, it activates a series locks around the window's perimeter. Espag handles, also referred to as shootbolts, offer more security than the single point lock that is found on older frames.

They are available in a range of different designs, including inline and cranked designs that can be used in left or right hand operation. You can also find various sleek ergonomically designed handles that are designed to enhance the feeling of the handle and how it looks on your windows.

If you're looking to replace window handles your existing uPVC window handle with an espag handle, you'll need to identify the size of the spindle that is fitted and measure this from the base of the handle to ensure you order the correct replacement. Cockspur

Cockspur handles are usually found on older uPVC and aluminium windows. The handle is closed and rotates into a wedge-shaped plastic catch. (Not to be confused with timber latches which are also covered in this section.) These handles are available in lockable and nonlockable versions. They come in a range of different nose heights to fit the frame.

The handle is secured with small triangle-shaped spur (spur) which is fixed to the frame. They are typically one-way handles, however a deadlock lock cylinder that locks can be fitted for additional security.

The backset is the distance that runs from the baseplate of the window to the underside of the nose of the handle. Tilt-and-turn windows are also secure. When they are locked in the closed position, they are very difficult to open from the outside, and they have double seals that prevent rainwater from entering the home when in the tilted or in-swing position. This feature is particularly beneficial for older homes, where burglars tend to target traditional windows which can be opened by the side hinges.

Spade

The type of handle you select will depend on your preferences as well as the type of windows you have.
