Buying a Pram Newborn

Prams and pushchairs are the multifunctional, versatile companions of caregivers and parents. They are the co-pilots on the new adventure of your child.

A pram for newborns is designed for newborns and babies. It has a deep, sturdy carrycot with soft and secure walls.

A pram will typically come with a bassinet but can be converted to an infant stroller seat once baby is ready.

Safety

Newborns are incredibly fragile and need to be protected as much as is possible. A stroller or pram with safety features will keep your baby safe and comfortable during travel. A stroller or pram should have a break that works and a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps; 2 waist straps; and a crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person driving it. Verify that the stroller you select is in compliance with these requirements.

Find a stroller that allows your newborn to be seated in the suggested lie-flat position. This position supports the baby and helps prevent a potentially dangerous curve in the spine which can lead to spinal problems. It also reduces the chance of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation by keeping airways open. Most prams that are used from birth will include the seat unit, which will recline into a lie-flat pram position for younger babies and then convert into a pushchair cheap seat unit for older children.

The suspension of the pram will determine how smooth it rides. A pram that has many spring suspensions will cost more however, it's worth the extra cost in the event that you plan to use your pram each day for a couple of years or longer.

Always read the instructions and carefully read the warning labels on your pram or stroller. When not in use, you should place your stroller in a safe area away from any potential hazards like bicycles, traffic or other people. It is also a good idea to take any bags or other items from the handles as they could cause your baby to become trapped or even die.

Even if the baby seems asleep, it's not recommended to leave a pram pushchair or stroller unattended. They can wriggle and become trapped or the pram could be thrown away and the child might be injured. Hanging bags or other items from the handles is not a good thing as they can fall and strike your child in the head.

Comfort

It is essential that newborns are able to lie flat, as this promotes lung and back development. Many prams have a cocoon or carrycot that creates a cozy nest-like atmosphere for your infant and can be easily detached from the frame. Others, such as the egg2's bucket style seat do not recline to lie flat, but they still provide a comfy ride for your baby.

Some prams come with an additional bassinet, infant stroller or inset seat so that you can easily switch between sitting and sleeping modes depending on your bub's requirements. This is sometimes described as a "travel system" and is the initial option to try out with your newborn.

Choose a stroller with two shoulder straps (ideally cushioned) and a five-point safety harness that fits your bub's body safely. Make sure there are no gaps or loose areas where fingers could become trapped, and that the buckles are simple to use, particularly for older children. It's also worth considering whether you'd like a parent facing pram or not - it's great for keeping an eye on your little one and helps them feel secure by the familiarity of their parents.

This is a fantastic method to keep eye contact with your baby and stay in contact, particularly when they're sleepy. Convenience

It is essential to take into account your baby's transportation needs when purchasing a baby pram double. Another feature to keep an eye on is the possibility of raising and lowering the infant's seat from a low to high setting, which helps maintain eye contact with them and keeps them close to you. Finally, make sure your baby's pram has a sturdy base with wheels that can handle bumps and potholes and that you can fold it up easily and ensure that the safety harness you use is safe that fits comfortably and securely (five-point instead of three-point) and is adjustable as your child grows. It should be possible to store shopping bags and changing bags beneath the pram (but remember that excessive weight could cause it to tip over).
