1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors in the right way.
If this sensor fails the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It can be a bit difficult to test since there are several pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors aren't firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine without sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.
I'm not certain what to do, as i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side).
