Cyberpunk 2077 Item Upgrading Guide

Item upgrading is a key component to maximizing the power of your gear. It allows you to add extra bonus stats in addition to your base level item's value.

Each upgrade template comes with set options which can be changed via the GUI. These options include the upgrade reference and the possibility of upgrading.

Upgrade components

The method of upgrading weapons, armor and other gear in Cyberpunk 2077 has been reworked as part of the 2.0 update. Upgrade components are scattered across Night City. The item you wish to upgrade must also have an upgrade slot. The game will show an overview of the item's expected stats after upgrading. It will also show the component or material needed. If you don't have the required material or component needed to upgrade an item, then the button will read "Blocked."

The items that can be upgraded include weapons and armor and trinkets and gathering tools. The upgrade slots on all of these are filled with various upgrades that provide attribute bonuses or extra effects while the equipment is being used. These upgrades can be obtained through crafting, bought from a vendor, or taken as a reward.

There are two kinds of upgrades: universal and gemstones. Universal upgrades that are like gemstones, can be placed in any kind of equipment and offer an inferior bonus than other types of upgrade components. These are easy to obtain because they are dropped by enemies and robbed all over the world. Gems can be found by disassembling items or through fulfilling certain tasks.

Upgrades can be removed and replaced by new ones in the slot of the weapon. However it will destroy any prior upgrades. Except for glyphs that can be placed into gathering tools, other upgrades are not able to be removed or salvaged once they are placed into an item. Infusions can be put into legendary and advanced equipment. Enhancements can only be recovered by using a high-quality salvaging kit or upgrade extractor.

Recycled items

During the last two world wars, shortages of natural resources drove the world to adopt recycling. It is now commonplace to recycle aluminum, plastic and paper and give them a new purpose as something completely different. Recycling saves energy and keeps carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. It's also a great option to avoid landfills and conserve natural resources. However, it is crucial to understand what can be recycled and what can't.

A common mistake that people make is putting the wrong things in the recycling bin. These items not only cause harm to recycling equipment, but can also contaminate the stream.
