WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also increased with every upgrade items.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade items your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the Best item upgrade slot and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was altered a bit, with some new features added. When a player has an upgrade items to a certain level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item upgrade (great post to read) level will be less expensive, even when they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their gear in WoW. They can make use of Flightstones which are a common upgrade currency available to all, or crests, which are more specific and consumed during upgrades on specific levels of items. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be spent on gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top gear you have available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
